Oliver, Domestic Mediumhair For Adoption In Cleveland, Georgia

Price:
$100
Location:
Cleveland, GA
Description:

Meet Oliver Oliver needs to get out of the shelter as soon as he can! He is a young handsome grey tabby/Maine Coon mix. He is a beautiful boy with a sweet, sweet face. He's led a hard life. Oliver grew up behind our shelter and we recently were able to catch him and take him into our care. His fur was so matted that he had to be shaved, and now has the (temporary) regal bearing of a lion with short hair except for his luxurious head and tail. His hair is already starting to grow out and he will be a beauty. Unfortunately, Oliver is FIV positive. This presents no danger to humans or other pets, but he'll need to be the only kitty in the house or he can live with other FIV positive kitties. FIV positive kitties lead normal lives, but should remain indoors where they can be kept safe and their health monitored, which for Oliver is perfect. He loves to be with his person. From his person he welcomes ear scratches and gentle petting. Because he has been feral, we were actually surprised at how quickly he adjusted to being loved and handled. It's as if he has been waiting to be rescued! He's a quiet companion. Currently, Oliver is in an isolation area because of his condition. He seems to enjoy watching other kitties play, but he would rather be snoozing on a lap or hanging close by. Oliver could use a loving person and a quiet home to help him thrive. Perhaps you'll be the one to open your heart and home to him. Please also check out Eugene, he is another Maine Coon mix who is also FIV positive and we would love for these two to be adopted together! Call 706-865-XXXX for information on additional health services provided as part of the adoption fee. If you can offer a safe indoor home to our cat/kitten, submit an application online https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/cat-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don't receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-XXXX. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Our shelter is currently closed to the general public as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. However, for approved adopters we are making appointments to meet and adopt your fur baby. Location: 4823 Helen Hwy., Sautee, GA 30571, Phone: 706-865-XXXX Email: XXXX@windstream.net Our shelter in Sautee GA is located about 3 miles south of the alpine town of Helen in northeast GA.Adoption processOur adoption process begins with the submission of an application which is used to gather information and initiate conversation with the adopting person/family. The form also assists us with assessing the environment for suitability and safety in the placement of our residents. The application is the first step in the approval process, followed by veterinarian reference check, landlord approval confirmation if relevant and a home visit which may be done physically or virtually depending on the distance from the shelter. The approval process can be initiated either before or after a visit to the shelter to visit our residents. The application for dogs is located on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.107374XXXX.548822128495391/1271213192922944/?type=3&theater . For cat application, go to: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.107374XXXX.548822128495391/1271223856255211/?type=3&theater . The forms will be automated for online submission through a new website currently under construction with an anticipated launch date of no later than Nov 2016. Requirements for adoption are specific to the needs of the animal in addition to standard checks for safety issues. Adopters must come to the shelter once approved to take their adopted pet home. We do not ship nor do we transport. Submitting the form is neither a guarantee of adoption nor an entitlement to "first come, first served" in the selection process of safely and appropriately placing our residents. Decision to approve/not approve an adopter(s) is based on the needs of the dog, not the needs of the adopter. The application should be downloaded before printing. The completed form can be returned through Facebook Messages, emailing to: XXXX@windstream.net or delivery to the shelter. The process usually takes 1 to 3 business days but can be slowed by not completing all of the questions, difficulty in reaching people relevant to approval and scheduling a home visit. Our residents must be returned to us at any point in time if the adoption is no longer suitable/safe for the pet or circumstances have changed to where a new home is needed. A contract must be signed to complete the adoption process. Standard fees for dogs are $100 and for cats $85. Some fees are subsidized in various amounts as low as $25 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for dogs and $20 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for cats . All of our animals are spay/neutered, have age appropriate vaccines and are free of internal parasites. Dogs are tested for heart worms and put on monthly prevention. Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV.Shelter locationOur Adoption Center is located at 4823 Helen Hwy (75N), Sautee GA 30571. We are 4 miles south of the alpine town of Helen in the NE GA mountains.
