Maggie, Domestic Shorthair For Adoption In Joppa, Maryland

Location:
Joppa, MD
Description:

Maggie wants to know, “Are you ready for me?” No doubt about it, not everyone is ready for Maggie. Don’t get me wrong: Maggie sure has many widely appealing traits. For those who can appreciate the beauty of a brown tabby, Maggie is just lovely. At 7 years old, she is past the high activity level of a kitten or young cat, but she is playful, graceful, and healthy, and should have MANY more years in front of her. Having only recently been introduced to wet cat food, she finds joy and gratitude with every meal. She also is not “needy.” She absolutely enjoys the presence of her human, but she can entertain herself happily with some simple toys and with a comfortable perch next to a window. She can sit for hours curled up next to her sleeping human, resting a paw or head on your leg, a connection that feels transcendent. Poor Maggie was neglected in her previous home, and has taken some time to learn that humans can be trusted. Not only has she been declawed, but she had to have a collar that was embedded into her neck surgically removed. Maggie’s previous owner wanted to have her euthanized when SUSAN stepped up to save her life. These life experiences have left scars around her neck and scars on her soul. Because of her crippled front paws and lack of affection in her previous home, Maggie gets nervous easily and has a tendency to nip. Fortunately the love and patience she has received in her foster home have made her feel so safe that the nips have become rarer. She does need an owner who can speak cat fluently and allows her time and space to feel safe again. Since coming to SUSAN, Maggie has taken some time to decompress in her foster home. Given some time to learn that she is safe, that her basic needs will be met, that she will be shown kindness and paid attention to, Maggie is starting to learn how to live with humans. She loves it! She greets her foster with affection and joy. She is getting more comfortable with human touch. She is starting to relax. Maggie is ready for her next step: finding a loving home, a home that will be patient with her and take joy in watching her blossom. She has a lot of love and gratitude to give, and has the capacity for deep connection. Are you ready?
