Emmett, Domestic Shorthair For Adoption In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Location:
Oklahoma City, OK
Description:

UPDATE 1/20/23 - Emmett has become a lot more comfortable in his foster home and allows his foster mom to pick him up for short times. However, he has been diagnosed with diabetes. He won't be available for adoption until we can stabilize his insulin dosage. He doesn't mind his twice daily injections at all! What a trooper! Emmett is a very sweet, shy boy who has had a hard life. He was rescued by another rescue when he was a young adult and had an operation on his back leg for a luxating patella. When he was placed in a foster home, a dog there attacked him and broke his leg. The vet wired it and he went to a different foster home where his foster mom adopted him. However she also had multiple dogs and so Emmett spent most of the next 7 years hiding under the bed during the day (when the dogs were around) only coming out at night to sleep with his favorite humans. In March, 2022 his dad suddenly passed and his mom was moved to a senior community so Emmett was relinquished to PAWS-OK to find him a new home. Emmett is a sweet boy who needs a quiet home with no dogs. It will take him a little to get adjusted but when he is comfortable he will make a great companion. He loves to be petted but is not fond of being picked up, either due to his multiple leg surgeries or because he was not handled a lot in his previous home. PAWS-OK is a small foster based non profit rescue operating in the OKC area since 2008. All our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia and FIV, up-to-date on their vaccines, litterbox trained and fostered in a volunteers home. We are committed to placing our rescues in the most loving homes that we can, regardless of how long it takes. Our kittens are kept with their mothers for as long as possible and not offered for adoption until they are at least 16 weeks of age. A handful of our available felines can be seen in the PetSmart Adoption Center in Rockwell Plaza (8357 N Rockwell) during normal store hours. If you are interested in adopting a new cat from PAWS-OK for your family, please go to our Adoption Request form at https://form.jotform.com/pawsokrescue/adoption-request-form. Your Request will be processed by a PAWS Volunteer who may reach out to you via email to clarify your information if needed. Processing normally takes 2-3 business days. If your request is approved, an Adoption Counselor will contact you to set up a phone interview or a time to meet with them at our Adoption Center. If we cannot help you, we may redirect you to other sources for a cat that may better fit your situation. Thank you for looking at our available cats and kittens. If you have any questions, please reach out for us at XXXX@gmail.com. February 6, 2024, 5:26 pmAdoption processAdopting a new pet for your home is a big decision and should not be entered into without proper consideration of your lifestyle and the needs of the pet. We are open to all lifestyles and believe responsible pet owners are a very diverse group of people. On line Adoption Requests are available at www.pawsok.com on the Adoptable Cats page, or pick one up in our Adoption Center at PetSmart (8357 N Rockwell, OKC 73132) We understand that some adopters have very specific needs that often we can't fill. For example, some adopters desire their cats to be declawed or to "mouse" or live outside. We seldom have these type of cats in our rescue but we are happy to reach out to others on behalf of the potential adopter, or direct them to other sources in an effort to find them a suitable feline companion. We will, when appropriate, make contact with applicant's landlords and veterinarians before approving an adoption. It is very important to us that all pets in the household are current on all their vaccinations including rabies (state law), spayed or neutered and have a history of annual veterinarian visits. Landlord Pet Deposits (per animal) are required at the vast majority of apartment complexes in the metro area. We may contact an applicants landlord to make sure the adoption of a new cat is within the apartment guidelines and that the pet deposit has been paid prior to adoption. If at any time the adopter can no longer care for the cat they adopt from PAWS, we will take it back into our adoption program. Simply contact us. Returns can normally be arranged within days of the initial call.Shelter locationPAWS cats are all fostered in family homes where they are socialized, stimulated and cared for by our loving volunteers. About few of our adoptable cats and kittens can be viewed in our Adoption Center inside the PetSmart on NW Expressway and Rockwell during normal business hours (Mon-Sat 9 AM - 8 PM, Sun 10 AM - 5 PM). Due to COVID any of our cats are available to meet, by appointment, for applicants with an approved Adoption Request. Scheduled Meet & Greet events, informational booths and other rescue events have been cancelled due to COVID in the Oklahoma City area.
