Disney - Fiv+ Adoption Center, Domestic Shorthair For Adoption In Frankfort

Location:
Frankfort, IL
Description:

FOSTERED IN: Adoption Center - Frankfort, IL 60423ESTIMATED DOB: 01/2020COLOR/BREED: Tabby ShorthairKIDS: YesDOGS: UnknownCATS: Yes HISTORY: Disney came from a hoarding situation and was transferred to our care from one of our overcrowded shelter partners. ABOUT: Disney is ready to walk right into your home like he owns the place. We're pretty sure he'll take over your heart in the same manner. This super friendly, social boy is like having a dog without all the hassle. He has a deep, throaty purr befitting a cat his size. There's almost never a time where he doesn't want pets and attention - sometimes he'll literally throw himself at your feet and roll over to encourage you to reach down and give him a massage. Sometimes, he'll paw at your lap when you're sitting down so you can pick him up and give him a hug. Unlike most cats, he doesn't seem to have a spot that is "off limits". Disney isn't shy with strangers, so he's likely to make instant friends with any visitors you have over. He also does well with other cats, but sometimes he tends to push their buttons (he can't help it - he just has no respect for personal space), but isn't aggressive. Now, there is one more thing you should know. Disney has tested positive for FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus), but this will not prevent him from living a long, happy life. The disease can only affect felines and is rarely spread to altered, friendly FIV-negative cats. It cannot be spread by sharing litter boxes, food dishes, playing or grooming. Transmission is only possible through deep puncture wounds (think non-neutered male cats fighting over territories) - again, Disney is a lover not a fighter, and is not the type to get into these types of serious scuffles with another friendly housemate. Additionally, he does not require any medicine for his condition, but since his immune system is a bit more suppressed than normal, he has the potential to get sick easier. For indoor cats, this is generally a non-issue as he will not be exposed to diseases and viruses in the safety of his home. Don't be scared by the myths people (and even some veterinarians!) spread about FIV. Take your time and do the research, and make your own decision about whether adopting an FIV cat is right for you if you have other felines at home. Disney also has a heart murmur, but he is asymptomatic and has been cleared for adoption by our cardiologist. Interested in adding this handsome, outgoing guy to your family? The first step is to fill out our adoption application. More information and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org.Adoption processWe encourage potential adopters to ask friends, family, and Lulu’s Locker about companion animal experiences in their lives. We want to ensure the animal we adopt to you fits well in your home environment. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about long-term animal care prior to adopting! Please contact us via email XXXX@gmail.com. Everything we do is for the animals in our care, and is aimed at giving them the best possible chance of finding a permanent home. - Fill out our online Adoption Application to get the process rolling! https://www.luluslockerrescue.org/adoption-process-application - Once your Application is completed, you will have a phone conversation with an adoption counselor. - Once you’ve been approved, s/he will fill you in on the personalities, history, and behavior of the animals to allow you to make the best choice possible for your living situation. You can ask your counselor any questions you have regarding health, behavior, and long-term care. - You and all members of your household will then be invited to visit the foster home or boarding facility where the animal is currently living. If you decide adoption is right for you, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee which covers the spay/neuter, wellness exam, vaccinations, microchip, and heartworm test (dogs only). - Animals are subject to a home visit prior to completion of the adoption process. - You will ALWAYS have continued support from Lulu’s Locker after your adoption!
