Callista came to us the last week of September and was very, very pregnant. The story we were given was that she was a "street cat" who had been pregnant at least twice before. Her community feeders would put her in their garage to give birth, they would rehome the kittens and would put her back outside. We knew we had to break that cycle and agreed to take her. She had fleas, was underweight and anemic. She gave birth on Sept 29th to 5 kittens. One was stillborn, one was half the size of the rest and died in about 12 hours, the other 3 survived and are thriving; 2 have been rehomed and one is pending. When we took Callista in, she was very shy. It's been a work in progress, but she is very handleable now. She eats well, both wet and dry food. She has great litterbox and grooming habits. She seeks out affection, loves to be pet and purrs a lot. She's ok with being picked up and carried a short distance, but she isn't yet a lap cat. She'll sit on my lap for just a few seconds, then jumps off to sit beside me instead. She is playful and loves to chase feathers and laser pointers. We love her and the only reason she's not a foster fail is that she seems like she would be happier being an only cat. She will hiss, growl and swat pretty aggressively at some of the other cats we have in the house. It's not full out fighting, but it makes all of the other cats anxious and uncomfortable. It's not all of the time, doesn't seem to be food related and sometimes we have a day when I think she's gotten better and will get along. Then the next day it seems even worse than before. She's way too nice of a cat to be shut away and I just feel like she would thrive in a home without other cats. We also have 2 dogs and with them, she doesn't run away or attack. Just sits somewhere she feels safe and watches from a distance. I think she will be shy at first in a new home, but with a little patience, she will be a wonderful companion. Allow 2-3 days for us to process your application A volunteer will contact you and arrange for you to meet the pet you have chosen to see if it is a good match. If all is well, you will sign an adoption contract, pay an adoption fee and you will have a new family member. All cats are spayed and neutered as part of the adoption. They may be tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) for a fee of $15.Shelter locationTo see the cat you would like to adopt, please call or email us and we will make arrangements for you to meet him/her.
