Allow me to introduce you to Reina! Reina came to Priceless Pets after being surrendered to OCAC with her six 3-day old kittens. She went into foster care shortly thereafter. Reina wowed her foster mother, me, with her maturity, patience, skill and incredible love that she had for her babies. It paid off too because Reina's babies were all adopted within 24 hours of being at the adoption center. But Reina is much more than the perfect mother. Reina loves, loves, loves human beings. Loud workmen? Noisy teenagers? Tall strangers? She LOVES them. When visitors came to play with her babies, Reina made sure that she was right there in the mix getting as much attention for herself as she could. Now that her babies are adopted, Reina spends her time with me, on my desk, on the window sill, in my lap or laying at my feet. She talks to me a lot. She greets me in the morning, she asks for treats and she responds to me with meows whenever I speak to her. She loves for me to hold her in my arms while I go through the house straightening up. I have never had a female adult cat be this affectionate. Reina has many Siamese Cat attributes. She is drop dead gorgeous, primarily white with patches that are striped black, gray and beige. She has that sleek, lanky, large eared, pointy face exotic look with beautiful black lined eyes. She talks a lot. She's possessive of her human. She demands attention. She comes when she's called. She also plays with toys like a kitten and loves it if you play with her. Wand toys please. Reina is basically perfect except, she is FIV positive. She likely caught the FIV virus living outside and being bit by an infected cat. Only cats can get FIV and they can only get it from a blood drawing bite. Cats who have it can expect to live a normal life span. However FIV causes immune deficiency which means that, if Reina becomes sick, she must be cared for immediately rather than wait to see if she'll get over it. Attention must also be paid to her dental care. It means that she cannot go outside as she may be exposed to cats who are sick or get into a fight and transmit the virus to another cat. She can live with other cats in her household so long as there's no biting between them. Reina's adopter needs to take an active interest in Reina's health and well being. In foster care Reina has been successfully introduced to her caretaker's two resident cats after a week of being kept in a separate room followed by a period of observed introduction. Reina does not appear to be an alpha cat as she defers to the whims of her feline housemates. The best part about adopting an adult cat, as opposed to a kitten, is that you know what you have and what you have with Reina is the attentive, good natured and loving cat that most people hope for but don't always get. Reina is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, flea free and has a chip that will be registered to her new owner once she is adopted.
