Clove ACCT-A-164462 is a 13-year-old male who came in as a stray on 5/15, found inside an abandoned property. His owner had presumably left him there at least a week prior. During a followup exam on 5/21, staff noted the following: Heavy matting on caudal half of dorsum and flanks. Underlying skin appears within normal limits. Apparently neutered male but difficult to assess urogenital due to short fuse with handling. Stiff, slow gait. Unable to perform full orthopedic exam but suspect some degree of osteoarthritis. Shaved mats from hind end and flanks. Expedited exit is recommended given Clove's senior status and obesity, both of which put him at high risk of decline in the shelter setting. During an intake exam on 5/19, staff observed the following of Clove: 15.5 lbs Slight amount of clear discharge from both eyes, Brown debris in both ears, Minimum dental calculus, Dirty coat, no fleas seen, matting near rear, "nice but does not like to be handled too much Per staff on 5/17, "Unable to do intake due to behavior. Clove allowed pets but became fractious when I tried to move her. No attempts at biting but did try to swat. Per staff on 5/16, "Attempted to box Clove for exam, Clove was initially subdued, when I went to give a pet he lunged at hand, attempted to bite (no contact made), and swatted at closed gate. Clove presented with dilated pupils and "airplane" or flat ears. As it was unsafe to proceed with intake exam I placed TTA slip with kennel card and started Gabapentin.
