Adopt ANTHONY a Black & White or Tuxedo Domestic Shorthair (short coat) cat in

Location:
Milford, MA
Description:

ANTHONY is a kind and timid soul who is still not quite ready to trust humans. He is a short-haired black and white fellow about six years old, who came in from outdoors. He must have been a street fighter, but maybe not a very good one. He came in with various wounds - nicks, scratches, cuts - which got him four months in our quarantine room. He is FIV-positive, so he then moved into our special room. He has been here three years, carefully watching the other cats in the room, usually from a high vantage point. Lately Anthony has been hanging out with Sebastian and R.W., the dynamic duo. He has been out and about more, even down on the floor with the other cats, before fleeing to his hidey-hole whenever humans come in. He hisses but it’s mostly for show. One can even touch him, just a little. He gets along fine with the other cats. Anthony has the potential for more sociability as he gradually overcomes his fears. He will require a considerable investment of time and patience by a caring person. Since Anthony is healthy and strong, the FIV should not be a problem for many years. This virus lowers a cat’s immune system response. He would be a great companion for another FIV-positive kitty who might be looking for a friend. We prefer to have these cats go to homes either with no other cats, or with other FIV-positive cats already in residence. We think Anthony would benefit from having some ready-made feline friends in his new home and plenty of places to explore. Anthony deserves a forever home of his own. If you are looking for a cat who is a little more challenging than the standard lap cat, come on over and meet Anthony. FIV Facts: 1. The Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat's immune system over a period of years. 2. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines. 3. FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. 4. FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens. 5. The virus can be spread through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, unneutered tomcats.) 6. A neutered cat, in a home, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced. 7. FIV-positive cats should be kept as healthy as possible. Keep them indoors and free from stress, feed them a high-quality diet, keep and treat any secondary problems as soon as they arise.
