There's an Irish blessing that goes like this: "May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more, and may nothing but happiness come through your door." I'm a pretty white and grey girl named Ryla, which is a name of Irish origin that means "goddess of heavens." I came to the shelter on Groundhog Day last year! Why am I still here? I'm a lovely, 2-year-old white and grey girl who had been seen hanging around a home in NW Rochester. I'm one of those very shy cats who "doesn't show well." I spend a lot of time on the shelves, but I am making progress! I come down more than I used to and stay down for longer periods. I stick around when staff and volunteers I know are in the room. But I run and climb to safety when strangers arrive. I also run from people who approach me, even when they are familiar to me. I have befriended some of the shy kittens and love cuddling with them. I have become especially close to an older kitten named Lynx. Like all the cats here, I deserve a loving, caring home. I deserve security and contentment. As someone who loves cats, you need to be extra patient with me. Please understand that I've been here more than a year, and I've made slow progress. When I go home, I will not change into an outgoing, affectionate cat overnight. Not in a week, or maybe not even in a month or more. Can you be patient? Can you love me as I am? I might surprise you - and myself. It would help me adjust more quickly to a new home if I could be adopted with my friend Lynx. I'm wishing for the luck of the Irish so I can be someone's forever Ryla very soon. Adoption fee $100 + microchip fee $30 + taxAdoption processPaws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal. All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs. After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.
