Let us introduce you to Bailey. You will never meet another cat like her! Bailey was born in our rescue on March 10, 2023 and had an especially rough start to life when she and her siblings caught the upper respiratory infection that their mother had while she gave birth to them. With lots of supportive care and hand-feeding, Bailey beat the odds and recovered from the infection. However, after recovering from the initial infection, she continued to get upper respiratory symptoms any time antibiotics were discontinued. After many vet appointments, a couple of diagnostic procedures, and months of antibiotics, here is what we know: 1) Bailey has a congenital malformation of her sinus/nasal structures.2) Bailey tested positive for a mycoplasma felis infection in her nasal cavity. This is resistant to most antibiotics, however the antibiotics we have been giving her keep it at bay while never completely eradicating it (yet).3) Bailey does not seem to have a nasopharyngeal polyp, which was our suspicion for a while, but has not been found during her procedures.4) Bailey has lived alongside a few other healthy, vaccinated cats her whole life without transmitting this infection to them. While we continue to have her on antibiotics and are now adding a course of antiviral medication as a next step, we thought to post her story here just in case some family out there was willing and financially able to take on a kitty like her who may have ongoing medical needs. She has been in the same foster home since birth but it's becoming clear that she is beginning to consider the foster home HER home, to the chagrin of the long-resident felines. Perhaps it's time for her to find her own forever home if possible. What is awesome about Bailey: This girl has PERSONALITY with a capital P! She is adored by the human members of her foster family, who were considering adopting her until some interpersonal conflicts among the resident cats popped up that seem to be somehow exacerbated by her presence. She is a very loving girl who appreciates a good cuddle and nuzzles you. She is a very energetic and athletic "cat-dog" who will play fetch endlessly with her soft toys and loves to chew them like a dog does. She enjoys watching birds out the window and will jump three feet into the air to catch the feathers on a wand toy. The trick is getting her to let it go once she catches it! She also likes pouncing on the digital mice she sees on the Mouse for iPad game. In short, this is a cat who looks for constant enrichment and will provide wonderful entertainment.
