** $470 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** Winston ACCT-A-141086 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Winston must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER or ADOPTER by Saturday, July 15th at 10 A.M. Should Winston's medical status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Winston, a sociable and friendly adult male cat, was brought in as a stray on 6/26. The person who found him noticed his unwell appearance and promptly took him to ACCT. Upon arrival, it was discovered that Winston was suffering from severe dental problems and required immediate medical attention. When Winston's carrier was opened at ACCT, a foul smell emanated from it. Winston held his mouth slightly open due to swelling, and there was mucousy discharge and excessive drooling on the outside of his mouth. A brief oral examination revealed severe lesions on all surfaces of his mouth. There were no significant signs of eye or nasal discharge during the initial examination. The oral lesions indicated a severe viral infection, possibly calicivirus, but no other signs of upper respiratory infection were present. Winston showed mild dehydration but remained quiet, alert, responsive, and enjoyed receiving pets. During the examination on 6/27, Winston exhibited excessive drooling and had apparent oral ulcers on his tongue. He remained very sweet and tolerant during the examination, except when his mouth was opened. On the recheck conducted on 6/30, it was observed that Winston had lost nearly one pound since his intake four days prior. Severe lingual ulcerations and continued hypersalivation were noted. By 7/5, Winston appeared brighter than during the previous examination and was affectionate towards the staff. He had been eating well, and the ulcers were healing, although some were still present on the distal part of his tongue and a small ulcer on his hard palate. Hypersalivation persisted, and there were no signs of ocular or nasal discharge. However, due to the excessive drooling, it was challenging to determine if he had a clear nasal discharge. His heart and lung sounds were normal. On 7/6, Winston underwent FIV/FeLV testing, and the results came back negative. As of 7/11, Winston's distal tongue still exhibited redness and ulcers, but there was noticeable improvement compared to the initial description. Winston was sneezing with watery nasal discharge, had a bright, alert, and responsive demeanor, and was eating well. On 7/12, the staff made the following observation about Winston - he is an absolute sweetheart! He enthusiastically welcomes everyone he encounters and craves all the affection and attention he can receive. Winston will nudge you with his head to request more attention and simply longs to be showered with love. Winston requires a rescue or a caring home that can support his recovery, provide necessary ongoing medical care, and fulfill his strong need for love and attention.
