Smokey is a shy, loving guy looking for a patient owner to give him a chance to show off his funny, sweet, loving personality. Our rescue's mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding new homes for their pets, and Smokey came to us after his beloved owner, who had him his whole life, passed away. His owner lovingly called Smokey "his rascal." He is such an affectionate guy if you are patient and give him the time to adjust to his surroundings - you can expect him to hide for a few weeks but to slowly warm up to you and give you lots of love and attention. His owner's family said he is a lap cat that also likes to be brushed. Smokey's owner passed away in May, and he spent a few months living alone with another cat. In that time, Smokey had family checking in on him and feeding him, but he did gain some weight. At 15 pounds, he needs to drop a few pounds so we are looking for an owner committed to measuring out his food and playing with him to keep him active - his favorite toys are balls and toys on a pole. Smokey is 8 years old, has excellent litter box habits, is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and full bloodwork showed a healthy cat. Although he has lived with other cats, he likes to be the top cat in charge, and we think he would thrive as an only cat. If you have a dog at home and want to adopt a dog, we would require that the dogs meet prior to adoption. Our dog adoption fee ranges from $75 to $175 based on age, and our cat adoption fee is $40.Shelter locationWe have adoption events throughout the year - check out our Facebook for a current listings. We do private adoption visits with approved applicants.
