Cappy's story reads like an epic in terms of a cat's life. He is an amazing and handsome guy but is so much more than just a pretty face, which he certainly is as well! Cappy started his journey with us at CCAW as a potential barn patrol kitty but as fate would have it, he had a lot more to his story than we ever would've imagined. Cappy was on the run in the National Park for nearly a year. He showed up, was photographed occasionally, but never got close enough to be caught. Once he was finally captured, coincidentally, at the same time that a few suspiciously similar kittens were found in the campground areas of the park (see our website homepage, his son Arlo), Cappy was promptly started on a program to introduce him to a new life as a well cared for barn kitty. This was nearly 8 months ago but Cappy's journey was just getting started. Twice, in the depths of winter, he escaped his warm barn and traversed 15-20 miles of wilderness, evading predators and harsh UT winter conditions (sub-zero ice storm at night) to make it back to the Park campground. After being caught a third time, we could see an entirely different approach was needed with this special guy. CCAW staff have had great success converting even the wildest feral cats into happy house kitties and we knew Cappy would be worth the effort. After countless hours and months of dedication, we can joyfully say that Cappy is ready for his new home! He now purrs, cuddles, and plays like a kitten! By the way, if you've never seen an adult cat who never knew the pure joy of play in a safe, warm environment rather than an existence of basic survival, you are in for a heart-melting treat! Cappy has recently developed an even more endearing behavior, that of a step-cat daddy to many of our newly-rescued kittens. As you can see in these photos, he is absolutely smitten with these little guys! Cappy's epic journey will always be a part of the pride we take here at our facility but there is so much more to be written and we can't wait to see what's next for him!
