Both of these conditions impact the immune system, and result in a lessened ability to fight off infection. Unfortunately, the average lifespan of cats afflicted by FeLV is drastically decreased, at roughly 2-3 years following infection. That being said, they typically lead happy, normal lives for the majority of this time period.
