Emma, Domestic Shorthair For Adoption In East Hartford, Connecticut

Location:
East Hartford, CT
Description:

Say hello to this pretty and unique little lady. Emma is a rescued stray that we received in December from another rescuer who was hoping to get her out of the cold. She had a feeder/caretaker but he knew nothing about the history or ages of the cats in the group so we had to estimate her age based on her appearance. We estimate she is a young adult cat so set her age at a year. She is very petite - in fact she is physically not much bigger than the four to five month old kittens she was rescued with; she is just a bit rounder/heavier. One extremely unique feature she has is her tail. She has a short stumpy tail with an odd nub at the end. It's about 3 inches long, so it's unlikely she was born as a bobtail. We suspect a healed tail injury she had at some point, but we will never know. It just makes her more special. She is a friendly girl, but shy. She was understandably very scared when we took her in. We have been working with her to socialize her and adapt her to the good life indoors during her time with us. When you walk into the room, she is initially fearful, but never aggressive. Once you stroke her a few times and she realizes it feels good and you are safe, she will come out of her shell and enjoy the attention. With time and stability in a forever home, she will adjust fine. Given our lack of information on her history, we do not know her reaction to dogs. Young kids who are very active would probably frighten her since she is already nervous, so we recommend a home with older children over 12 or one without children. She should get along with other cats when properly introduced as she has been living with a group of other cats. Emma is spayed, microchipped, has age-appropriate vaccinations and is FIV/FeLV negative. Cats adopted from the rescue must remain as indoor pets only and must never be declawed.
