Adopt Skipper a Gray or Blue Domestic Shorthair (short coat) cat in New

New Richmond, WI

Skipper (along with his family members of Gilligan, MaryAnn, and Lovee) was brought to GGOH after a kind and caring woman took him in from the outdoors, concerned about the falling temperature that was upon us. This group came in shy and afraid but are learning that humans can be trusted and that we are their source for food, love and caring. Skipper is one of our FIP Warriors - he battled FIP and won! FIP is a disease that mutates from Coronavirus with no definable reason why it happens. In the past, FIP was terminal but with the recent introduction to an experimental med, FIP is being cured and cats are going on to live wonderful lives. We know that FIP seems scary and it's a chance to take if adopting Skipper for sure, but really, is there any guarantee on any pet that's adopted - even the healthiest of cats can succumb to various diseases that no one would ever predict. We fully believe that Skipper deserves the chance at the best life possible in a loving, adoptive home. As stated earlier, Skipper is still quite shy so he has a double knock against him, if you will - FIP history and shy. What we'd really like to tell you though is Skipper is friendly underneath it all (he will follow you around for attention, but will back up if you try to give it too quickly). He has the makings of a great companion, it just will take someone with some understanding and a bit of patience. And really, here's the thing - even if Skipper never fully submits to us humans, he still deserves a home with warm sofas and big windows for bird watching and a hand to slip him treats now and then just because he's Skipper, and he's cute, and he's Skipper! Heehee. So, if you have a home that you think would be a good fit for this fella, why not give him a chance. It's so hard to watch the shy ones get left behind - we feel they deserve a home just as much as those who are right there to greet you when you walk through the door. Perhaps you have a lonely singleton who would love a companion - Skipper could be that, too. We call Skipper one of our warriors but what he really needs, is someone to be his warrior. We are being his voice and asking for him - will you be his warrior and give him the ultimate gift, a home for however long that might be? As a bit of a side note, we have several adoptive families that have FIP warrior kitties and I can guarantee that each and every one of them would agree that FIP does not define their sweet family members - they are healthy and happy and act just like any other kitty cat would. They would tell you, "go for it - 100%, go for it!". If you think you have a home/family that would be ideal for Skipper, why not stop in and meet him - give him a chance to know what a family and a home full of love really feels like. Skipper's DOB is 9/7/16. (The second photo is Skipper with Lovee.) You can schedule a meet & greet with Skipper via our website.
