Adopt Frizbee a Black & White or Tuxedo Domestic Shorthair (short coat) cat in

Location:
Milford, MA
Description:

FRIZBEE is well on the way to becoming a really nice kitty, since he has been at the shelter. He had been hanging around a person’s yard, picking fights with his own cats. Since he appeared to have a leg injury, he was sent to the veterinarian, who determined that a puncture wound qualified him for 4 mons in our quarantine room. Oh yes, he is also FIV-positive. This outdoor kitty did NOT like being confined, and was as 1st a very nasty fellow indeed (probably mostly due to fear). After a while, however, he calmed down and he started to be more interested in the volunteers, even allowing a little patting sometimes. A nice supply of food helped, also. Then he moved into our special room and was given the run of the room with the other FIV kitties. They have taught him some manners. He seems to be getting along just fine with them, and he isn’t hiding any more, but out and about. He accepts patting and maybe just a little cuddling, but he is not sure yet about being picked up. He is still shy, and learning to trust humans is often a slow process. Everyone going into the room tries to give him some attention and a little scratching between his ears. Frizbee is a handsome looking black and white fellow about 4 ½ years old. He is adjusting to the indoor life and needs a patient person to complete his socialization. He might prefer a home with some friendly felines already in residence. FIV Facts: 1. The Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat's immune system over a period of years. 2. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines. 3. FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. 4. FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens. 5. The virus can be spread through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, unneutered tomcats.) 6. A neutered cat, in a home, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced. 7. FIV-positive cats should be kept as healthy as possible. Keep them indoors and free from stress, feed them a high quality diet, keep and treat any secondary problems as soon as they arise.
