Adopt Chiquita a All Black Domestic Shorthair / Mixed cat in Philadelphia

Location:
Philadelphia, PA
Description:

This nervous but sweet little girl is looking for a special family!Chiquita is a ~7 month-old female whose owner could no longer care for her, and was petrified being left at the shelter. While there, she was scared and could not be touched or pet and was barely eating. When she went to her foster home, it took a while for her to come out of her hidey house. She curled up in there, still so scared of her new surroundings. By the end of her first day in foster care, she ate an entire can of food; she must have been making up for missed meals. It takes time for Chiquita to learn to trust new people and places. She chose her person (whose room she resided in for the first few weeks) and she is much more trusting of her person than the other humans in the household. She will let the other folks pet her and play with her, but she will not snuggle up to them the same way. She has a lot of kitten energy and needs to get the zoomies out regularly. She is very energetic and loves to explore the entire home. She enjoys sitting on a windowsill and watching everything happening outside. She lets you know when she wants pets by rubbing her head against your hand or nuzzling you. She is a bundle of energy and never stops moving, until she stops and decides it is nap time. She loves her beds and will nap in those, or she will cuddle up and sleep with her human. Most nights, she sleeps with her human snuggled right up to them. She is very loving as long as you allow her to do so on her own terms.Chiquita can get a little nippy and scratchy when she gets overexcited while playing or getting chin scratches. If she rolls onto her back, do not fall for her tricks by touching her belly, she does not tolerate this, nor will she allow anyone to pick her up. She is getting much better with the appropriate redirection, but because of this, we do not recommend her to live in a home with small children. She would do best with cat-savvy humans who can read her clear signals when she is getting overstimulated. When she is feeling intimidated, she will run away and come back when she is ready to interact again. Chiquita had limited (through baby gates & doors) interaction with another cat in her foster home and she was a bit wary. She might be able to adjust to another cat with a slow introduction or would do well as an only cat. However, since she is FeLV+ so she will need to go to a home with other FeLV+ cats. She also lived with a medium size dog in foster care and had little interest in him. **Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a virus that is specific to cats that attacks and weakens a cat’s immune system. Cats with FeLV can live normal, happy, healthy lives—with a shorter life expectancy than cats without FeLV. In the past, cats with FeLV in shelters were euthanized as soon as they were diagnosed. PAWS takes a different stance: we enable FeLV+ cats to live out their lives in loving homes. For more information feel free to check out the FeLV FAQs we have available on our website!** Age: 7 months How I came to PAWS: Owner Surrender Animal ID#: Location: I am currently being cared for in a foster home!
