Adopt Annie a Brown Tabby Domestic Shorthair (short coat) cat in Alamo

Location:
Alamo, CA
Description:

Upon discovering a cat colony living behind a gas station, fearing a population explosion, the FCF volunteer immediately started setting humane traps in order to get the cats spayed and neutered. The first cat to be captured was an adorable young brown tabby girl. She went to the vet the next day to be fixed and receive the necessary tests and vaccinations, then went back to a foster home to recover. We were disappointed but not surprised to find that she seemed to be a feral cat, not previously socialized with humans. She was not aggressive at all, but very fearful. Normally, we would return a feral cat to the colony once fixed. However, because she was relatively young and non-aggressive, we decided not to return Annie immediately, but to spend a few weeks with her and see if she would come around. After several days, Annie began to come forward when food was placed in her cage. Her caretaker gingerly touched her on the cheek and she did not object. Before long, she was readily accepting petting, purring, and rubbing on her caretaker’s hands. Soon it was time to move her into a bigger space, and she was picked up for the first time. Annie looked surprised at being lifted into the air, but did not panic. By today, Annie has learned that these humans can make pretty good buddies after all! She LOVES to be petted – gentle scratches on the side of the cheek are a favorite – and purrs very sweetly. It has been an amazing experience to see her come around! Now, there is only one thing missing. Annie is ready to find her permanent home! Annie is now 3.5 years old, but with her petite round face, she will always look like a kitten! She’s hoping to find her way to a quiet, easygoing home. She is still a bit shy and skittish, due to her traumatic times on the street, but will continue to blossom in a calm environment where she can get plenty of one-on-one attention. Young children or dogs would probably be too frightening, but Annie has always gotten along beautifully with the other cats in the foster home. She could be a great choice if you already have one or more cats, or if you are looking for a pair, she could go together with one of our other foster cats. Annie has been spayed, vaccinated, and tested FIV/FELV negative. She uses the litterbox like a champ! There is an adoption donation to the Feral Cat Foundation (an all-volunteer organization, which helped get her out of a bad situation and provided all of her medical care) to help us continue our work with homeless cats.
