KING came with a group of cats from King Street in Franklin. The others were adopted but poor King had two strikes against him. He is FIV-positive and also heartworm-positive. There is no medicine for heartworms for cats, so affected cats have to clear the heartworms on their own. King has been living in our special room for over a year now, and he is still with us, so maybe he is all OK now. He prefers the higher-up areas in the room, with his own private igloo, surrounded by three or four cat friends, apparently coming down when no humans are around. He is a little friendlier now, and can be patted, but maintains a kingly aloofness. He is only about four years old, a handsome light brown short-haired tiger boy. He seems to be a lazy laid-back fellow. Some of the pictures show him with some of his friends. King has gained about three pounds during his stay – apparently the cushy life agrees with him. He doesn’t mind being patted, and seems to even like it, especially under his chin and between his ears. Since he seems to enjoy the company of other cats, perhaps a home with other FIV-positive cats in residence would be a good fit for him. If you think maybe King would fit into your household, come on over and meet him. UPDATE: King is now heartworm-antibody-negative! Here is the report from his vet: “The cat probably had recently been exposed to or had circulating microfilaria (immature heartworms) at the time of the initial test. The microfilaria were not able to mature into adult worms, possibly due to application of Revolution, and died. The cat is not expected to develop signs of heartworm disease.” WOW!
