Are you a cat whisperer? Athena needs you. Athena is a wonderful, independent, gentle, playful, and loving kitty when she knows you. When she knows you and can trust you, she initiates affection and interactions and her lively personality comes out. When she feels safe, she is content, and feels happy, and can be herself.The person who adopts her must have the patience to allow Athena the time to trust and adjust to the new home. There is no reason for the person to be fearful or shy with Athena as she has proven over and over to be nothing but a gentle and good kitty. And Athena is a real survivor, recovering from a severe neck wound and then recovering from a tail amputation. For many days, we did not know if Athena was going to make it but she did.So if you were to adopt Athena, it might take awhile for her to warm up to you. She might act like she is afraid of you but how long that goes on will depend on how you interact with her and how often. My guess is, a couple of weeks, maybe less, maybe a bit longer. In the foster room, she has spots to cozy up in, but she cannot completely hide. Athena runs and hides from dogs still. But just like cats and people, each dog has her own personality. Some dogs are very gentle with cats and leave them alone. Some dogs chase cats and are intrusive in a cat’s space. Athena would not do well with a space-invading type of dog. Athena loves other cats. She loves her sister and the two other kittens in the foster room. She loves to wrestle and play hide-n-seek and chase with the other cats. She is a very nice balance of being independent but also sometimes wanting cuddles. Athena does really cute things, like she wags her little nub of a tail. She hides inside play tunnels and leaps out to ambush the other kittens and chase them. She bumps her nose to her foster mother’s nose for kisses. She reaches out with her paw when a lickable treat approaches her mouth. She has thick plush fur and loves to have her neck rubbed. She is a fairly small cat in length and height but she has a cute little round soft belly. Most of all, Athena seems very grateful to have been rescued and she is slowly gaining her confidence to explore beyond the foster room and meet new people.
