Meet Mandela, 15 years old Domestic Shorthair
Van Nuys, CA
Mandela is free at last! Mandela came to us after another rescue had kept him in a small cage for 2yrs! What was his horrible crime? He has FIV. FIV is similar to HIV but is most often spread via vicious bloody bite wounds from unneutered males fighting for territory. It is not contagious to people or other animals. Once a cat is neutered they pose little to no threat to other cats and can live long, normal lives.Mandela is not aggressive, and even if he was he wore his teeth down to little nubs from chewing on the bars in the cage. He became obese and filthy from not having room to move around. The rescue decided to get rid of him and was planning on euthanizing him when we stepped in.He is doing nice now that he is free. He has lost the extra weight and loves to cuddle. He has made friends with a girl kitty named Maggie and would be thrilled if they could go home together, but for the right home he would be fine without her.All of our cats are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, dewormed, treated for fleas, tested for FeLV/FIV, micro chipped and get 30 days of pet insurance free when they are adopted!Want to meet Madela?
